Default VOIP Client on BB's connected to BES

Hi,

My boss has asked me to look into skype type clients for the BB.

From what I have seen the IM+ talk looks to be the best option, but I don't think it can do everything the boss wants.

He is looking for a BB client that can do
  • VOIP calls to other BB's
  • VOIP calls into the Avaya IP phone system

It would be great if it could also
  • Only allow you to select contacts from an approved whitelist for VOIP calls
  • Connect into the Avaya Index phone system

Any help or advice would be much appreciated as I am really struggling with this one.....

There is no VOIP client for BlackBerry.

Something like TruPhone might work if you can tolerate using it over 3G (no WiFi available). Calls between TruPhone users are free.

You're welcome. Most BB owners are not happy about the situation and it's amazing nobody has stepped up.

Actually Skype had promised a BB version more than a year ago but never delivered. Skype announced it will make a version available in America, but only to Verizon subscribers. I see you're on O2 and it's not a SIP client per se (locked to Skype's own network) so I didn't mention it earlier. Maybe they won't make it exclusive in Europe so we'll have a chance at it. I have Skype on 2 Nokias and it really is nice, but it still doesn't give us the option to choose our own providers or access other networks.

Default Global Solution Needed

Thanks for the feedback.

I have been asked to look at this again and come up with a global solution for our BB's (60+)

Our users are split between USA and Europe.

The only solution looks to be Truphone.

I can't see this listed anywhere on the site. Would it be possible for all phones to just use one account or would each phone need to have its own account. Just asking as it would make it easier for topping up the credit on one account instead of 60+

What Free IM client would people recommend that can work on both Windows PC's as well as BB's and uses the BB's data connection? I have been asked to find a free global standard.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

I'm not sure what you are asking here. Do you want a desktop IM client that will handle different IM backends? I like Trillian, it does AIM, Yahoo, ICQ and some others which the IM client on my BB also supports. If you want something on the desktop that connects to BBM, I don't think such a thing exists.

Sorry I didn't really make it very clear.

For IM

I am trying to find a global standard not just the client but the actual IM as well that would be suitable for corporate use, for example AIM, Yahoo but for corporate.
I would also need to find a client that can run on Windows PC's as well as BB's

Thanks.

Just download BlackVoib for free and use it until Sept 15. BlackVoib is a BlackBerry SIP client not tied to any service and runs at least on 4 BlackBerry models.

Just follow the link
BlackVoib is a SIP client for BlackBerries
