Upgrading BES from 4.0.6 to 5.0.2

Hello all,

I've been working with BES and Blackberries for nearly 3 years. In that time we have not performed any upgrades to our BES so upgrading is new to me and our other admin. We need to move to the latest and greatest as we are upgrading Notes/Domino from 7.0.2 to 8.5.2. In glancing over the documentation I have some questions.

1. We are on 4.0.6. I know I have to go to 4.0.7 before going to 5.0.2. No problem. But do I have to re-activate each blackberry after the 5.0.2 upgrade? I know I have to going from 4.0.6 to 4.0.7. I'd like to do this in 2 steps if I could.

2. I show that 5.0.2 is only compatible with notes/domino 7.0.4. Is this true? If so I have to upgrade my domino server before going to 5.0.2. Will 5.0.2 even working with domino 7.0.2?

Any other help/tips and tricks are greatly appreciated.

Also in my documentation for 5.0.2 I see that Notes/Domino 8.5.2 is not supported. Is this feature added in a hotfix or anything?

Yes you will need to upgrade Domino. Here are the steps I use when upgrading in this situation.
Upgrade BES to 4.1 sp7
Upgrade Domino to 7.0.4
Upgrade BES to 5.0.2
Upgrade Domino to 8.5.2

This the closest you can get to keeping everything compatible in the stages of the upgrades. Do not upgrade from 4.0.7 to BES 5.0.2, I tried this 3 times and twice I had issues.
