Default Update phones from BES

I setup a BES last year (4.5) and it is working great. I did the basic setup and applied the phone basic IT policy for passwords and have it setup to talk to my exchange server. Other than that, I have not touched it.

I know there are things I can do on the BES for the phones, like update the firmware and upload apps.

How is this completed? Where can I find the information?

What kinda Apps are available and how can they be controlled?

How do i find out what people have downloaded and what can be done with them?

I am new to the BES environment and need some direction.

Thanks

The BES version you have mentioned is not correct, it should be something like 5.0 sp2 or 4.1 sp7.
Here is how to create a software configuration to deploy applications to your handsets KB18119-How to create a Software Configuration to deploy an application to multiple BlackBerry Device Software versions
The BES audits the handsets and will show you what applications are installed.
Install Blackberry appworld on one of the handsets to give you an idea what apps are out there.
