Thumbs up Update BES Server - Exchange

Hi Guys

We currently switched from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 and now I think it would be also a good time to Upgrade our BES Server to the newest version. At the moment we are using 4.1.6.9. So far I haven't touched the BES Server because it was working fine but now get sometimes Sync Problems. Now my question is can you simply download the newest version and install it over? Or do you need to follow a step by step process?

I also red in the forum about the cdo.lll that it should be the same on the bes and exchange server. So can simply copy the cdo.dll from the exchange server over the one in the bes?

I'm happy about any advice.

Yes, you can do an in-place upgrade.

Download the MAPICDO 1.21 from MS and install that on the BES. It is required if your BESAdmin mailbox resides on 2007.

Download details: Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1

We did an upgrade from SBS 2003 to Exch 2010 and from 4.1x to BES 5.02. It is very common to see multiple contact lists in the BB when you do this. Depending on the number of BBs in your network, I would consider deleting the service books on the BB before you sync with 5.0 or do more homework than I did. Or back then wipe the BB then re-add it to the new server. Some of them had multiple contact lists, one that you couldn't remove since the BES or Exch Svr it originated from isn't active any more. I can't remember many other specifics than that there are definitely issues when upgrading.
