Default SBS 2008 x64 and BES install

Not sure if this is the right place, but......

Hi, I have lurked for a couple years now looking up questions I had, now I have one that I can't seem to locate a specific answer for :

Environment
SBS 2008 Server with Exchange 2007 ( 64 bit machine )
SBS 2003 Server - BES 4.1 installed

History
SBS 2003 Server has been our office server for about 5 years now. January of 2008 I installed BES 4.1 and had it configured correctly to provide service to 2 Blackberry phones.

Purchased SBS 2008 server, migrated user mailboxes to Exchange 2007.

Problem
I have read that you can't install BES on the Exchange 2007 Server because it's 64 bit - I get that part of it. I can't find any DETAILED instructions anywhere on how to set this up so that I can keep my SBS 2003 server online as the BES server since the software was working perfectly prior to my move to the new server. Everywhere I look I only find instructions for setting up a different configuration. I know someone has done this before.

I need to know exactly how to accomplish this.

My 2003 machine has been demoted so it's no longer a primary domain controller. The 2008 machine has Exchange 2007 installed and working perfectly - send / receive emails both internally and externally. I disabled all Exchange services on the 2003 machine as well.

I am just really confused and hope someone out there can help.

Many thanks in advance.
Paul

Did you remove all of the Exchange 2003 programs and services from the SBS 03 box, or just disable them? You must have Exchange Management Console for 2007 installed on the 2003 machine, plus the MAPI/CDO v1.2.1 to allow PIM sync. The BES should see in AD that the users mailboxes have moved servers and adjust accordingly.

Check your Windows and BES logs to indicate the root cause of the problem as well.

Also make sure you read the admin install guide again and confirm all of the security permissions on the new Exchange 2007 server.

That is all I can think of off-hand, but it should hopefully cover the issue. My best guess would be lack of MAPI/CDO or permissions on new Exchange server, but I have been wrong before.

Oh, and BTW, if you ever need to retire the SBS 03 box, you can install the Hyper-V role on the SBS 08 box and you get the rights to virtualize SBS 08 once, and with right to downgrade you should be able to install Win2k3 32-bit as a virtual machine. You could also P2V the entire SBS03 box but I doubt you want all the extra crap.

Default Fixed it !

Thank you for the reply.

I needed to get something accomplished quickly, so I just re-formatted the system and re-installed SBS 2003 without active domain.

I installed BES, installed the MAPI/CDO, everything works perfectly ! This was probably the best way to go since the system no longer functioned as the PDC or file server and has been re purposed as strictly a BES server with the SBS 2008 system as the PDC and file server.
