Default Remote File Access and BESX 5.0

Quote:
Remote access to Windows network file shares to allow smartphone users to securely retrieve, view, edit and email documents from behind the firewall.
For the life of me I cannot figure out how to edit documents that are located in a network share. I am using 5.0 device software and can view documents but no luck with editing. It would seem a little pointless if I wasn't able to edit the documents.

Any ideas?

I'm thinking it might have to do with the fact im using 5.0 device software from someone other then verizon. Would that make a difference?

for all those that are waiting for a response. I finally contacted blackberry about it.

Hello William,

Thank you for contacting BlackBerry Customer Support.

At this time, there is no estimated time of release for that functionality. It may become available in a future service pack or maintenance release.

If you require further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Have a great day.

Sincerely,

Stephen

It seems that this functionality has not yet been released. It seems to me to be a big downfall in the ability to access corporate documents.

Anyway just thought someone might wanna know the official response.

The only way I've found to edit remote documents is to browse to them, copy them to the BlackBerry, edit and save, then put them back on the remote file system.

But thanks for posting the follow up. So many times people don't do that, or just post "Nevermind, I figured it out" and leave the rest of us wondering.

I have a few questions along the same topic. We just migrated to BESx from BPS. As a domain admin, I can access files on our network shares. However, I tried to get 2 other users to access public shares and they cannot. I'm using a S2 with OS 5.0.451. They are using S1's with OS 5.0.0.328. Both are in the domain users group and have read/ write access to the share or contents within the share. From windows they can see the shares and edit the contents within specific folders (based on their access levels).

What is necessary to ensure that users have access to network shares on their Blackberry's using BESx?

Can I set up and push the shares through BESx?

I have the same problem with remote file access. I have 15 besx users, only domain admin can successfully authenticate. The rest get “Authentication failed”. It is not a file permission or share permission issue.

OK I figured it out...

Three things must be true for a bb user to access a network share through "FILES" bb app.

1- Domain User must be in the "Allow log on locally" Windows Local Security Policy

2- Share permission must allow authenticated uses

3- File security DACLs apply to authenticated uses

My problem was that my Local Security Policy did not "Allow log on locally" for normal Domain Users.

If you wanted to disable bb users access to network shares just deny/remove them from "Allow log on locally".

Just got done fixing my authentication problem. For me, adding "logon on locally" on the BES machine fixed the problem. Adding it to the file server did not help me.
