Default OTA OS Upgrade (BB TOUR, VZW)

Now that verizon is rolling out an official update to 5.0 for the tour.

How is it possible to upgrade our devices OTA via BES? (is it possible?)

When i try to do a "assign software" the only version i see is 4.7.1.61.

Im on BPS v4.1.4

Well, first off, it hasn't been released yet. After that, I'm in pretty much the same boat, except on BES 5. I had been running 5.0.419 on my Tour, but am currently in the process of going back to 4.7.61 or whatever it was so that I can have the same experience as the users while I am experimenting, as this is the first OS upgrade we'll be going through. Some of our users are not exactly the brightest so I want to have everything like it is for them so I can answer questions or fix things if need be. We shall see what happens tomorrow.

I'm assuming it will. And supposedly, yes, it will be released on Monday. At 11:59 PM. So might as well say Tuesday.

Just an update, I did have to reboot our BES server before the new update would show up. Currently going step by step through the manual trying to get it set up.

i am also wanting the 5.0 on my tour, but it wont show up as an OTA upgrade. so the only option is to reboot the bes server to get it to show up? as of right now none of our 100ish blackberry tour's show it available.

Unfortunately, I don't know how it would work on BPS, as I am on BES 5.0.

I'm using the update guide found here, starting on page 20: http://docs.blackberry.com/en/admin/...1-5.0.1-US.pdf

DarkShadow04, when I was talking about it showing up, I meant on the server under the BlackBerry Device software section, not on the phones. We are using the BES push model. It sounds like what you are talking about would be the Carrier push model, so you would need to configure the IT policies to allow that. The instructions should be in the manual I posted above. So far it seems to be working ok on my test Berry.

Yea, it still has not shown up in our BPS and our server was rebooted. I'm not sure what to do at this point? Maybe they are staging the roll out and rolling out to BPS last?

I'm hoping a reboot won't be necessary - with about 2800 BBs across 2 BES, that's going to be hard to justify. This was not a requirement for any of the previous version upgrades from any of the carriers - even Verizon.

I'm currently at BES 4.1.6.

I've asked our rep to see what he can find - will share unless someone else posts it first.

Maybe instead of rebooting, try restarting some of the BlackBerry services? I don't know which one would do it or even if any of them would. Hopefully you guys can get it figured out.

Also, in BES 5, you have to do a search to display the OS versions available to you. Try doing a search with all criteria blank. I had to make sure I switched the Support Type criteria to blank rather than the default.

Have done all the searches - no joy.

Have a couple of queries in with RIM folks.

Maybe this is a blessing after reading some of the threads in the Tour forum.

Hmm, I'm also noticing the only bundle I have showing up is from 4.7.1.61 to the new one. We never pushed 4.7.1.61. Looks like some people may be needing to upgrade twice with this.

Just downgraded back to 4.7.1.40 to test it out.

Show up where? In the BES under Device Software, or on the phone? I found out you have to be at the latest .61 (there's 2 of them) for it to be pushed to the phone. Lovely Verizon hasn't released a OTA bundle to go from .40 to the new OS.

The following are what shows up when I search for bundles for the 9630.
'Version' 'Source Version' 'Device'
4.7.1.61 (Platform 4.1.0.81) 4.7.1.40 (Platform 4.1.0.40) 9630
4.7.1.61 (Platform 4.1.0.81) 4.7.1.61 (Platform 4.1.0.75) 9630
4.7.1.61 (Platform 4.1.0.81) 4.7.1.53 (Platform 4.1.0.65) 9630
5.0.0.591 (Platform 4.2.0.272) 4.7.1.61 (Platform 4.1.0.81) 9630

I threw all 4 into a single configuration, downgraded my phone to .40, and it picked up the update to .61. After that finished, it picked up the update to 5.0.0.591
