Default OS upgrade w/o dupe calendar entries

OK, I am not a BES or IT administrator, but our IT department only has 15 or so BES users and we don't seem to be a priority to them.

Last time I upgraded the OS on my 9530, everything went well except all of my calendar entries were duplicated when I came back on board with the BES (I had to reactivate as I did the upgrade using desktop manager, not through my IT department). It took a while to fix all of my calendar info.

So my question is how do I upgrade the OS on my 9530 without having all of the duplicate calendare entries again?

We are running BES version 4.1 here with GroupWise 7.0

Any help would be appreciated. I work in Health Care so I can hook you up with a free MRI or something. <g>

A reflash and activate by itself shouldnt cause this problem. I can only guess that you did a restore of an IPD backup file as well, which could (in conjunction with the enterprise activation) cause the issue. Try avoiding doing a full restore, use the advanced facility and just bring back the data types that are missing after activation.

I didn't have to restore anything after the last upgrade, unless that is a product of upgrading the OS via the desktop manager.

Thanks,
Marc

Running an upgrade typically prompts you whether you want to backup the device first, if you answer yes, then after the backup, the new firmware is loaded and then the backup is restored to the device. This in itself shouldnt really cause a problem, as all the unique ref ids on each calendar item should remain the same, but it seems like it has caused you a problem with this upgrade.

I don't know if this would work on your setup, but I think it might. Try deleting the BES CICAL service book, and then hook your 9530 back up to the Desktop Manager, and it should reactivate with the one calendar entry

Trying not to sound too stupid, but...
I upgrade the OS via Desktop Manager, delete the BES CICAL service book, reactivate on my BES and then do what with my Desktop Manager?

Thanks,
Marc

You mentioned that last time you reactivated your Storm on the BES by plugging it in your computer. You should be able to do the same thing again and it will redownload the CICAL service book.

I've always found it best to only save 3rd party apps when upgrading a phone outside of a BES connected DM. After install, re-activate your phone and your set.

I usually just do a wipe before upgrading an OS and reactivating on BES. Or during the upgrade you can just opt not to backup existing data like GlenB suggested. Either way should work. The only downside is you lose your txt messages and anything not stored on the memory card, but in my experience I have always found the phone to run better and more reliably after an OS upgrade if I either wipe or don't backup during upgrade. All of the important data will come back when you reactivate on the BES anyways so who cares if everything is gone until you reactivate.

If you opt not to do the backup/restore, but do a manual backup beforehand, you can then go into backup/restore after reflashing, select Advanced, the File, Open, and pick your backup file. Then you can use the arrows in the middle to copy across selected types of data, e.g. SMS
