Default Moving Phones from One BES to Another

We have a bunch of users who had their Blackberry phones activated on a third party email service for our company. Within the past week we have migrated them to a new server being run to our company and another Admin has set up a BES server that we are going to be using ourselves.

I understand that these phones will need to have a security wipe in order to be able to activate them on the new BES server that will be run by our company.

These folks don't want to lose any of their personal settings, SMS messages, themes, etc.

I've been reading some things on the web and saw about doing selective restores on backups?

What is the easiest way for me to do a backup on these phones with the Desktop Manager (I downloaded 5 from the BB website) and what can I safely restore from the backups so that I don't prevent the new enterprise activation from going through?

Thanks!

Interesting question. Have you tried activating one of these phones against the new BES without doing a device wipe? Failing that, you have a major pain (depending on number of devices) because each user will have different requirements for what they want to keep!

Selective restore:
1. Take full backup of the device.
2. Wipe the device.
3. Goto DM->Backup and restore->Advanced->Select the backup flle.
4. Only restore selective entries like SMS, MMS, Content store etc.

RIM has an utility out for BES 5.0 which part of the enterprise server resource kit called "Blackberry Enterprise Transporter".

It's designed to pull users from 4.1 to 5.0 and I have used it to pull users off my 5.0 BES to to old 4.1 which works, officially it only supports 5.0 server but unoffcially BES admin's have been using it to switch users between 4.1 servers however RIM warns that this is not supported and should be considered for use at your own risk.
