Default MMS and BB Messenger

I work in a school division and we have recently (just in the last week) purchased Blackberries and the BES. I volunteered to administer the server since no one else wanted to. Being a school district we have very little money for training, so I'm learning this as I go.

I have searched the forums I just want to post my question so that I am 100% positive of the answer. I'm pretty sure that I've pieced together from this forum that BlackBerry Messenger and MMS operate independently. That BBM does not use MMS.

So, if I set a policy on the BES to disable MMS BlackBerry Messenger will not be affected and will still be able to share photos and files. Is that correct?

That is correct. BlackBerry Messenger uses the data part of your plan. MMS uses the text/MMS part of your plan. Not the same thing. If you want to prove this to yourself, then I would make a test group, put myself only in that group, then apply a copy of the standard IT policy you use for everyone else, with the modification you are testing to this new test group.

MMS and BBM are separate functions, so you may disable MMS and enjoy the benefit of BBM as you wish.
