Message Remains Unread after Reading on Outlook

One of our users prefers to read his email messages on his computer (via Outlook 2007) rather his BlackBerry. However, after reading the email on his workstation he finds that the message remains unread on his BlackBerry device.

User: MS Outlook 2007 & BB 9300 (v5.0.0.846).
BES: Express v5.0.3.41
Exchange: 2010 SP1

Wireless Reconcilation is enabled for the Desktop service on his BB.

Are his emails being moved to a PST as a result of a rule? If not, when he chooses to reconcile manually, using the Reconcile Now option in his Messages menu, does it reconcile properly? How long is he waiting for the message to become read on his BB?
