| | FULL Corporate Directory (not using lookup)
Hi,
I hope this is the right place to post this.
I was asked if there is a feature while composing email, the User may contact the full directory. Yes, the full complete directory instantly. Something like Global Address List in Outlook.
I know by design, there is the 'Lookup' feature... but this is not what i am hoping to find.
Please help! It can be a 3rd party solution.
Many thanks!
J

I think that would be something that your company would have to set up. We use the LOOKUP feature for ours, as well as a company generated app.

any information for the 'company generated app'???
I am looking for a solution that would integrate with the BES so it will enable instant global directory access while using the handset.

The only way I know of to do this without lookups is to add the company address book to the users personal contacts. Either that, or write an app that downloads the company address book periodically to the device and lets you browse through it through the app.

This is how i did it before.
Download the GAL onto my computer, export the list into a pst.
Every new user i setup, test their account on mine and add import the pst to their contacts... then any other user's that wanted the details, i send them the pst with instructions on how to do it themselves.
Long way of doing it but then it gets the user to appreciate it a bit more.

Hello All,
Yes, i have considering adding our GAL into their contacts list, but our company is 5000 strong. This won't work out for us. Thanks for the suggestion tho.
As for writing an app, I do not have this capacity to do so.
Does anyone know where i can find this app? maybe 3rd party?
Thanks in advance!!

Sorry, the sysadmin in me has to ask; what's wrong with the lookup?

I would imagine they consider it too slow.

Takes less than a second on my BB to search the GAL.

nothing wrong with lookup... just is different because it does not have GAL... which displays all active account.
I guess this does not exist for BlackBerry... as of yet...

I guess this does not exist for BlackBerry... as of yet... | The lookup displays the active GAL. The results have [] around the names when it finds a match in the GAL. You then have the choice of saving the contact to the local contacts or just using the info as is.

Why would you need to? You look for what you need to look for, same as if the contact was in your Contacts.

Good point. You should already know whom to send to; so with that said, one should be able to do a lookup.
i know i am beating this one down... but big boss man wants to see everything at once on his BB... so the big boss man shall receive my best efforts to accommodate his request.
no 3rd party app we can buy?
