Question Enterprise Activation not an option on my new Torch

I sort of think I know the answer to this but someone on the Torch 9800 list recommended I check in here.

I have a BIS plan aparrently.... due to AT&T being total morons and 4 people telling me that when they moved my iPhone unlimited to BB unlimited that BES would work. My IT group at work wants to have me use my Torch as a test since they're looking at devices/carriers to roll out. I don't think it'll work but they gave me an EAS password but my question is, where do I go on the Torch to set that up.

When I go to setup an email address, I don't get enterprise as an option, just google, yahoo, other, BIS. Nothing in other either.

I went to options, device, advanced system settings (where it says enterprise activation, service book) but I only see service book, sim card, browser push, cell broadcasting, default services, host routing table and tcp ip. Even the AT&T manager I talked to said to try it and see what happens but I'm thinking that when you go to a BES account, AT&T "pushes" something to your phone to allow you to set it up... or am I just missing a menu option I can try?

Now what's REALLY interesting here is that my husband got a Torch in the AT&T store in October, he has a DataPro 2GB plan for $25 and NOT the enterprise 2gb plan. I look at his phone, he has the Enterprise Activation option. My phone is a refurb one I just got this week from the AT&T website. I verified our OS versions are exactly the same.... I've added a few BIS email accounts to mine and put a trial of notifysync on it (which is glitchy with some calendar entries and not seeing any memos/notes) but I'm at a loss on why he would have the enterprise activation show up and I don't.

Any help? My work phone is with T Mobile and is a brick because of signal issues where I live so I was hoping to try BES on my Toch and see what's what.

thanks in advance!

Yes, it's very hard to find someone at AT&T that understands BES.

As I understand AT&T data plans for the Blackberry, you need at least the 2gb datapro plan AND the business email package which I think is $15 a month.

Yes, if your Torch has BES data services, you should see an option for enterprise activation in the advanced options. If not you need to do one of two things (if not both).....

Have service books re-sent to your device by going to advanced options, host routing table then hit the BB button and select "register now", this will resend all AT&T provided service books to your device.

If that doesn't give you the enterprise activation activation then AT&T most likely doesn't have BES data enabled on your account so you gotta call AT&T to fix that.

Try to forgive AT&T consumer retail support, they rarely deal with BES as the majority of BB users don't use BES, as far as trying BES out, you should find that it simply works, you will get your work email calendar and contacts synced with no issue.

BE VERY aware that BES takes full control over your BB. By control I mean for the major things (and many other too!) such as phone logs are recorded, Txt messages can be logged and you may lose the ability to install applications on your Torch which such is normally ok when it's a "work" phone but when it's your own personal phone you may not want that.

As a BES admin, I don't encourage personal BB's here at work to be activated on BES in a general sense I'm assuming control over Blackberrys that are not company owned. Personally, get your employer to activate your work T-Mobile BB, if that doesn't work due to lack of coverage, ask them to switch your work line to AT&T if that's who offers the better wireless coverage!

Other than the addtional personal monthly cost, you may not be fully aware of the implications of using your personal Blackberry on BES.

Thanks for the info. I did finally get the enterprise activation menu to show up (battery pull) but because I don't have a BES data plan, it won't let me activate. I wasn't aware of all the things my company could take over on my personal phone by doing this so I'm glad it doesn't work (and I'm not about to pay an extra $15 for it).

The company used to have Sprint for mine and a mix, then 2 years ago, they went to T Mobile for ALL with no deviation (even though I told them it'd be a brick, they offered a router for UMA .... hello, I have a router and what's the point of it working in my house when I'm sitting at my desk with a land line - I work almost exclusively from home). Anyway, now they are evaluating various devices and providers and word is they might not go to a one size fits all solution.

Thank you for your perspective.
