Default Disable No Text Message IT Policy

Our IT policies disable text messaging on all devices via a software restriction. Just swapped out a couple hundred Curve 8320s in favor of the Bold 9700.

After full factory reset of all the old 8320s the text messaging is still disabled. How do I get rid of the software restriction on text messaging?

I wonder if your company manager has a reason.....

You will need to ask your IT manager if they will allow you to SMS.

I'm assuming you are the IT Manager. I've always wondered why so many phones are sold with IT Policies on them. Is there not a way to remove it using the BES admin account?

You would have to apply a "Default" IT Policy to the old devices while they are still on BES, or use on of the tools described on the Crackberry forums to manually remove an IT Policy.

Thanks for confirming that the BES admin can restore a non-restrictive IT Policy. In my opinion, that should always be done instead of selling a restricted phone to an unsuspecting buyer who may lack the expertise to remove it.

No problem Jeff - I think the reason most phones are sold in this way is that the majority of BES admins have many other roles too, and dont necessarily have the time to fully understand BES, IT Policies and all the intricacies of how this works.

My recomendation is to never ever change the Default IT Policy, always copy it to make your changes and apply the copied version to the devices. This is also useful if you are troubleshooting your IT Policy changes - you can always apply the default one to verify that it isnt a device issue.
