Default Defining Domain email settings in BIS

Hello all,
I manage a few small client sites where a small handful of users use their personal blackberrys to get access to the company email servers. They don't need the functionality that BES brings, so accessing it via BIS works just fine.

One of these clients just outsourced their email services, and the imap/smtp settings just chagned.

I'm unable to find any documentation on BB's website or on any forums regarding how their "Magic" works in resolving the proper settings when someone enters their email address. When users attempt to put in just their email address and password, the settings fail. After supplying the correct imap/smtp settings (using the same email address and password) things work.

How would one go about defining the settings that are used for a specific domain by the BIS systems? is it done in DNS (I've seen refrences to mail.domain.com though unfortunately this is not currently possible for this client given other systems they run)? or can you create a TXT record in DNS? anything like that?

My understanding is that when you enter the email address and password, BIS tries various combinations of common server names and user names derived from the email address. So if you have a email address of me@mydomain.com and define a DNS entry of mail.mydomain.com or pop.mydomain.com that resolves to the outsourced mail server the BIS add email process can determine the servername automagically. In this instance, either "me" or "me@mydomain.com" would need to be your username to log onto the POP3 or IMAP server too.
