Smile Creating a ghost image of a phone? Off BES.

Hello! My first post on Crackberry.com!

Ive just begun working on a project for a large client, half of the project is using BES, and there is another section that BES is not feasable for.

Im trying to find out a way of taking what I would describe as a "ghost" image of a pre-built 9700, and then replicating it to other devices. (Talking about 800 - 900 9700 Handsets)

Each device requires the following things:

Certain 3rd Party apps (Built in house)
Certain internet Shortcuts
A certain theme (created in house)
All desktop icons arranged in the same order (and a few hidden too)

Ive tried using all of the desktop manager features, but to no avail. I can get the apps to copy over via the "switch phone" trick, but nothing else.

Can any one advise me on a solution to my problem, as building 800 devices to the spec of the client really isnt a feasable option!

Many thanks

Graeme

Check out some of the hybrid BB device sites, they distribute varients of the "official" releases that contain or don't contain apps.

It basicly comes down to creating your own "hybrid" that contain the application you want on the device, now the I think you can do the same with themes since they too can be a simple ALX installable file. Once you have the hybrid done, use apploader to load them to the devices.

Personally for the shortcuts I might suggest creating Blackberry mobile intranet page that contain the links and then in the IT policy, set the URL for that intranet page as the default home page for the devices when they open the browser. That way you can modify the links centrally since as links go, over time they may change and you can make changes later without touching the devices.

Replicating would involve distributing your "hybrid" to those who would loading the devices which would be about the size compressed that you find with the official downloadable releases from the carriers.

Ive manged to solve the issue however not in the meathod above, as some of that is BES stuff isnt it?

I took a pre built phone, and did an advanced back up of all the things I needed.

I then connected the phone to BBSAK and backed up the theme and the apps I needed.

Took a new phone, installed all the apps via BBSAK and then did a restore, using the restore file from the other phone in BDM - and it works!

What you did is the basic thing that the hybrid brewers do except they get a little technically at times and put in different varients of say, radio files apk's and package it all up togather.

I agree, BBSAK the right way to go!
