Question Can I move to Enterprise activation without wiping?

I've just installed a new BBES for GroupWise. I've now been asked to perform enterprise activation on a variety of different models that are currently setup via IMAP/POP. Can I switch them over to Enterprise activation without wiping the handheld? If I do have to wipe, can I backup the present config & restore certain information?
I'm new to BB's, and don't have one of my own to test this procedures out on, yet I'm supposed to convert 30 of these! Without losing any important information of course!

You do not have to wipe.

I would make a backup first though. Not sure for Groupwise but activating and changing the primary Email address in Domino may cause an automatic wipe as part of the activation..

So I can just navigate to the 'enterprise activation' screen to add the device into BES? Only thing I'd lose is present e-mail & contacts?

didn't seen to work. Just tried Enterprise Activation on a BB Pearl 8130, and it came up with error "Activation Request Failed. Service Connection is Unavailable."

Does this have to do with the data plan they're on?

"Your probably on a personal plan(BIS). You need to be on a business(BES) plan."

If it failed quite quickly, i.e. within a minute, then I agree with mmikee, check the plan you have with the carrier. There should be no requirement to wipe a BIS device prior to enterprise activation. There may be some confusion though, with calendar and contact data that is in databases on the device related to BIS and then not being able to sync those with the Groupwise server.

Yes, it failed rather quickly, not sure if it was a minute, but it didn't take 10 minutes or longer. So I need to find out what data plan this person has then? This might be a rough project. The plan was for all these people who have their work BB's activated under their own individual plans join into the Enterprise Server. If wiping the unit can't overcome this problem they'll have to switch over before they get on the BES I guess.

If I wiped the device could I then re-active on the BES service? This particular device is almost blank already, so there's no information the user cares about.

It shouldn't matter if the phone is wiped or not. People who get plans on their own don't get BES data because it costs an additional $15-$30 a month for something they can't use.

Everyone of the phones you can't activate; their owners will have to call their providers and get the additional service added to their plan.

IMO - Personal berries on BES - Bad idea. This is one of the main reasons.

I successfully activated 2 S2's and a Curve2 with BESx and they are all on the 29.99 BIS plan.

I can only speak for Verizon but you MUST add BES to the plan or it will not work. The enterprise activation will fail every time if you are not paying the $15.00 a month for BES. If you did somehow manage to get it to activate without it, it wont last long.

Good Luck.

It was an OTA activation.

Good Luck.
I am on a Verizon BIS plan and it did work for 5 of my Blackberries so far. If and when they do change it, then I will upgrade my plan. I am reading everywhere that they are going to enforce the 44.99 BES plan. I'll ride it as far as I can though.
