Default Can BESX coexist with BPS?

I currently have BPS installed on a dedicated server, but am interested in adding BESX when it is released so I can allow those with only BIS service to sync PIM data. Can these two services coexist on the same network, or do I have to settle on one? I need some of the enterprise features for a small handful of users, but also have many others that I would like to connect without incurring the cost of an enterprise data plan.

Multiple Blackberry Domains (including BESX and BPS) are able to exist independently on the same network using different configuration databases as long as the users on each BES are different, you cannot have the same user defined in BES on both domains as the BES writes some config information into hidden folders in the mailbox.

No problem Netwerx1. As far as I know BESX is not yet available for download but as it is based on BES 5.0 my information will be applicable.

I wonder what you lose between BPS and BES-X? Could be they will have the same security features and you won't need to keep both. I am looking to move from BPS to BES-X.

According to some folks I know who spend more time on this than I do, BESX won't do over the air activation, which might be an issue for some. It also doesn't allow for more than 35 IT Policies which is likely less of an issue in SMB.

Then there is the problem that it is Exchanged only -- I'm hoping that they will release a Domino version, but I'll stick with my BPS for the moment.

I've been reading the documentation today, and it will still allow OTA activation for handhelds with an Enterprise (BES) data plan. For handhelds with a BIS data plan, you have to activate them using one of a couple of methods on your wired network.

What bums me out is there isn't an upgrade path from BPS, and I haven't found any documentation on how to install them concurrently and move users over.

I had a quick look at the policies. They will do most SMB with one glaing exception, there is no way to stop non-corporate email accounts.

Can I have BPS and BESX on the same server? Assuming I do not have users on both BPS and BESX?

I am thinking about moving from BPS to BESX. What I would like to do is install BESX on a separate server and then migrate the BPS users to BESX one at a time.

Do you folks think this will fly?

If you find out the answer to this, could you please let me know I would be going BES to BESX though.

I am also using BPS which is installed on our Exchange 2003 server. My only reason for upgrading would be HTML email support, does anyone know if BESX support HTML, and is RIM going to make an upgrade package for us BPS admins.

BESX is essentially BES 5 for Exchange with some bits removed/cut down. Yes it will support HTML email.

It cannot coexist with BPS on the same server.

The Enterprise Transporter tool is used for migrating users between different BES environments without having to re-enterprise activate users. I have seen it used in corporate environments where BES 5 was installed alongside existing BES 4.1 environments, so it could be tested independently and migration to the new system done in stages. I havent seen anything that states whether it works or not with BESX and BPS, but it would be the first thing I would look at to have two parallel systems and staged migrations.

Ok so it seems like my best bet might be to install BESX on a dedicated server (which luckily I have an extra, not that powerful but should do) and run the transporter to move all my users over.
