Default BES5 Without Enterprise Data Plan

I have Sprint and a BES5 server running with my Exchange 2010 Server. Supposedly, it's possible to use the Blackberries with the BES server without a Blackberry data plan, and have it function exactly as it does with the Enterprise Data Plan, with the one exception being no more wireless activation. I can live without the wireless activation. Can anyone confirm if the blackberries will work exactly the same sans wireless activation? I'd like to ditch the Enterprise Data Plan if I can.

Thanks
