Default BES VS Activesync on live policy update

Hi Guys,

Could someone please guide me a bit on that whilst looking at the feature comparison of BES VS Activesync why it says that Live policy update on Iphone can only be updated when Activesync is reachable or vpn is connected, on the otherhand Blackberry's live policy update is continuous through BES.

Why its not the same, aren't both dependent on the internet connectivity?

Also, i read somewhere that remote wipe features on iPhone are only valid if you are within the same carrier, but Blackberry's remote wipe/disable features would work regardless. confused!!

Many thanks in advance.

Ahsan

from what I can gather with activesync the device has to check back into exchange by itself to get new policies, so hence the "when reachable or VPN" part. There are potential gaps between policy refresh even of the device has wireless coverage. with BES on the other hand the policy is pushed out, so with "just" wireless coverage a handset will get a revised IT policy. Very soft point for me though.

I don't know about remote wipe on other devices, but on BlackBerry a remote wipe does work no matter what carrier the BES or device is connected on. The carrier couldn't block the remote wipe command even if they wanted to.

Out of interest sake, whats are your findings on ActiveSync vs BES? And what are your sources??

Well, I am not very clear on the 'Active Sync' part but can guide you with the BES part. In the BES which is a nifty control tool for the enterprise Blackberries, the Push messaging technology initiates the wipe, password lock, password change and other things. while as in the Active Sync which is a proprietary of Microsoft corporation basically it synchronizes exchange email to handhelds. I am not sure if the wipe thing is within the active sync or a carrier specific thing. I'd be very interested in this discussion kindly keep me updated.
