Default BES user, contacts not sync'ing

I have one user at a client of mine who's on the BES server and he's receiving emails just fine, and the calender is in sync but on his phone he has roughly 2500 contacts and in outlook there are only about 20. He mentioned it happened around the same time when he connected his Ipad via active sync (not sure if it's related or not). Contacts in the device is set to sync wirelessly already. I turne dit off and back on, that did nothing. Also I deleted the service books for the "desktop" and resent them but no luck. Not sure how I can force those contacts from his BB into outlook. Usually it just works and stays in sync. If someone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

EDIT: Sorry, this is for when the contacts are in Outlook and NOT on the BB

First step is to open their Outlook Contacts, Use Phone List view. Right-click on the column headers and select Field Chooser. Add First Name and Last Name columns next to Company column. Click on the First Name column and while holding SHIFT, click on Last Name and Company. This should sort them by all 3 columns. Look at the top and bottom of the list and delete any blank contacts. If there's a contact that has other info, but nothing in those three fields, add some info into one of them. A contact must have an entry in one of those 3 fields or Address Book sync will fail.

After you have cleaned up their addy book, go into the Contacts on the BB, go to Options and while on the first Options screen, type "rset". You won't see it typing, but it will ask you to confirm clearing the address book. Say OK. After that, go into Options, Advanced Options, Service Books and delete the Desktop[SYNC] sb. Now go to the BAS console and resend the Service Books.

It will do a shortened EA and it should repopulate the Address Book.

Sorry, I tried to add a note in case you didn't see it. That is for when the Contacts are in Outlook, but not on the BB. I misread your post and wanted to point that out and not just delete my post.

Let me see what I can find about your situation where the contacts are on the BB. An important thing to do would be to create a backup of that BB so you can restore those contacts if something goes awry.

Actually, can't I just use the desktop manager to push contacts from the device into outlook? Not sure if I should remove him from the BES before I do that and re-add him in after? Any thoughts?

You should be able to do that (push from DM to outlook) but I believe it would break his BES link.

In theory, yes that should do it. Actually I don't see any reason it shouldn't You will have to wipe the device to get it back on the BES though.

It turns out that he had installed something that had moved his contacts into a sub folder. Thanks for helping though.
