Unhappy BES over Wifi - local hostname/DNS

When using Wifi and if I bring up Wifi diagnostics, under "Enterprise" it shows that there's no connection to the Enterprise server - instead listing:

Address Used: //BES-SERVER.domain.local

Although this resolves fine inside the company network, it doesn't resolve externally (for obvious reasons).

Is there a way to specify an alternative address or IP address for devices to connect to?

Thanks.

If the Blackberry cannot connect to the Blackberry Router directly it connects to BBI (Blackberry Infrastructure). It will route over a wifi network to connect to the BBI so you can still send emails if 3G/GPRS is switched off but wifi is on. If you want to connect directly to the Blackberry router from the internet you might be able to do it by installing a standalone Blackberry router using a public IP address and daisy chain your BES through it.

Thank you for clarifying, that certainly makes sense. The problem really is that the BES server is actually on a public IP address, but unfortunately the hostname it sends to the handhelds is of the format bes-01.domain.local and so it can't be resolved. If I could change the hostname that the handhelds see, this would solve the problem.

Any further ideas?
Thanks
