Default BES Install Help... if anyone can!

I have read other posts but no help and also check the Blackberry Install docs.

We are looking to install the BES Express and here is my question:

Can all software be installed on a Windows Server 2003?
or
Must it all be installed on a PC dedicated to running the BES?

As i was reading through the docs, it states that all can be installed on the same system, but when the step comes to logging into a PC and going into Local Users and Groups i became confused. I was under the impression that BES must be installed on a NOS. NOS's do not have Local User and Groups under Manage.

So i assume i can get a regular desktop, install all software to there and be done. Is this correct?

Any help is appreciated.

What are you running for a mail server? According to the RIM docs, you can install BESX on an Exchanged server as long as you aren't serving more than 25 users, but for a Domino server you need a dedicated box. I suspect you can run a Domino server for a small number on users on the same hardware as a BESX server, as the BESX box has to run a Domino server, but then you get into the dreaded "unsupported configuration" (that and I'd rather run my Domino servers on Linux). You can manage BES users and groups from another PC connecting to the BESX via a browser, so that may be the source of some of your confusion.

we are running exchange server 2007. i was reading that it should be installed on the mail server itself since we only have 20 potential users, but here is where i became stumped. It says to login to a PC to test the BESAdmin account was setup successfully. Then it goes on to say that i must go to Manage > Local User and Groups > and allow BESAdmin to have access on all machines running BESX. All is fine except that if the BESX is installed on the Exchange Server, there is no Local User and Groups section that i notice. That is where i stopped and posted to here.

as you can probably tell I'm a Domino guy not an Exchanged guy. My guess is that (because I couldn't find like that menu tree in my config), is that maybe there needs to be an BESAdmin user in your Exchanged environment and that said user needs access.
It also may be that nothing is needed and that the doc is for situations where the Exchanged server and the BB server are on different boxes.

You can install the BESX on the Exchange 2007 server. I have done it. You need to check all the links on this page and follow the appropriate links exactly.

BlackBerry - BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express

There is even a tutorial presentation that walks through the entire install. The tutorial is quite helpful.

In reading all the requirements, there will be plenty of items you must complete using the Exchange Management Shell and not the Exchange Management Console, so be prepared.

The local security policy items will be addressed through Domain Security Policy and Domain Controller Security Policy. Just take your time going through the prerequisites and the other installation steps. I would suggest reading through it all once and make a few notes. Also watch the tutorial first to see what will be expected of you during the install. In total the install should take a couple hours depending on how fast the system is and how on top of each step you are.

Good luck.
