Default BES Express OTA Activation

Good day,

I know that OTA activation with BES Express is no longer supported, but is this because the users no longer require a full BES data package? In other words, if my users have a full BES Data plan will OTA activation work, or will I have to physically connect it to something to get it activated? I have a couple of dozen BB users with full BES data plans (because they needed it with BPS), so planning on installing the BES Express app on a new server, de-activate them on the BPS and activate them on the BES Express. I'd rather not have to request these users to bring their BBs to my office for activation on the new BES Express, as some of them are remote users that are hours away!

TIA,

- Joe

Actually, OTA activation is completely supported on BESX. If your BB has a BES plan, there are no issues whatsoever. If your BB is only on a BIS plan, you need to activate using the wire.

Mine and my wife's BBs both activated OTA to my BESx and we have BIS-only plans with Bell Mobility. Same thing with my brother's phone and he's on Rogers.

OTA worked fine for us.

As I recall, in some RIM documentation, BESX was designed for the small businesses who could not afford the full BES. The upside was to also make the data appear as "normal" data and not BES specific data, and thus save the small companies from having to purchase the BES specific data plans the carriers like to offer for a premium.

When I switched my office from BBPro to BESX we went off the "BES Data Plan" we had with AT&T. It saved $15 per month per user. They all remain working fine and fast.

I also recently activated my personal BB using OTA. I am on BIS and my employer recently installed BESX. Activation was simple on my end. And works great allows me to still have the unlocked feeling of my personal and get my work email (push), contacts (lookup), and calendar.
