Default BES 5.0 And Exchange 2007 SP2

Hi Everyone,

i am looking at deploying / upgrading BES. Current version of BES is 4.1.x and mail environment is Notes.

A new exchange 2007 SP2 greenfield deployment will be done and we need to deploy BB 5.0 to integrate with exchange.

I have two queries, basically was not able to find this info (my poor searching skills i say).

Has RIM released x64 version of BES 5.0.1 ?
If not, is BES 5.0.1 x32 compatible with Exchange 2007 SP2. I know that Exchange 2007 Sp1 has been certified by RIM for installation.

Any leads on this information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

As I understand it, the BES 5.0 install will work on a 64 bit OS but the BES will run in 32 bit mode. Also, if you install the MAPI/CDO download on a 64 bit OS the MAPI profile editor is under Control Panel -> 32 bit apps, so I imagine any MAPI client, including BES, will need to run in 32 bit mode until MAPI is updated to support native 64 bit.

No problem bbphreak

Exchange 2007 SP2 is currently defined as "best efforts" support by RIM, presumably this means they havent yet had it ran through the test cycle but dont anticipate any issues.

Yes BES 5 works fine on x64, no SP2 is not certified yet. They are hoping to certify it with the release of BES 5 SP1 around the end of this month.

I've just had to put in a couple of calls to RIM about my BES. They never mentioned anything about E2K7 SP2. The only time they mentioned a not supported is when I told then BES was running on an ESX 4.0 host.

FWIW I support 2 BES Environments, both running 5.0.0 MR3, on Win2008 x64as ESX 4.0 VM's. Even have both setup with HA Standby BES Servers also on remote ESX4 VM's. Never had an issue with either one of them.

I have no issue related to running on ESX 4.0. Just that as of right now, RIM will only provide 'best effort' to work on issues, any issues, if you run on ESX 4.0
