Default BES 5.0.2 Install - Besadmin account - Coexist Ex2003 & Ex2010

Hi all,

We currently have mailboxes on Exchange server 2003 SP1 with their BB devices working OK on BES 4.1.

I have installed Exchange Server 2010 SP1 and I am now in the process of installing BES 5.0.2 into the environment (same AD domain and Forest).

During setup, I will be prompted to specify which Exchange Server the BES server will talk to. As my BESadmin account is still on Exchange 2003, do I point the BES server to Exchange 2003? Ideally/eventually, I will have an Exchange 2010 & BES 5.0.2 environment.. so should I choose Exchange 2010?

Am I right in assuming I have the two following options?:

1. I create a new BESadmin mailbox account (eg. BesAdmin2010) in Exchange 2010, add all the required permissions to this mailbox that BESadmin currently has, and point BES to Exchange 2010 during set up?

2. I migrate the current BESadmin mailbox to Exchange 2010 and also point BES to Exchange 2010 during set up? Will this mess with the current 100 BB active devices that are still hosted on Exchange 2003/BES 4.1?

I hope this makes sense?
Thanks in advance.

Jay.

I am currenlty planning the same thing, did you ever get a reply? Did you make the changeover yet, if so, how did it go?

Thank you

Hi Bob,

Option 1 worked successfully:

Ensure the new BESADMIN account you create in Exchange 2010 has all the required permissions (receive ***, send as etc). And then specify that account during the new BES v503 install..

There's some good BES PDF's that you'll find helpful.. google them:
BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server_for_Microsoft_Exchang e-Installation_and_Configuration_Guide.pdf

and
BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server_for_Microsoft_Exchang e-Upgrade_Guide.pdf

thanks
good luck
Jay

If you give the existing besadmin account the necessary permissions for Ex2010, it will work on both Exchange servers, assuming you also correctly assigned permissions when you set it up in Ex2003.

Yeah, BESadmin needs to be on 2010, but it will then work on 2003 as well. Don't forget to create the throttling policy for BESAdmin on Exchange!
