Auto attachment download possible?
Is it possible for Blackberry handhelds attached to a Blackberry Enterprise Server (Version 5) to automatically download certain file type attachments in emails?
Example:
We have 500 users who get voicemails from a Cisco Unity system forwarded to their mailbox as a WAV (or mp3) file. We want the blackberries to automatically download the attachment. Sometimes if you have a long voicemail it can be up to a whopping megabyte, and if you wanted to listen to that WAV file from your blackberry it can take a pretty long time if you're stuck on an EDGE network.
It appears that there are settings for this in the Enterprise Server but they do not work. I have created IT Policies that allow "auto attachment download" but I'm afraid that this setting is misleading.
Long story short: Download the attachment without user intervention. Just be there when I open the message. Or at least start downloading it, I know these things can't be instantly available. We have opened support tickets with RIM and they have taken us down some obvious testing paths and have gotten nowhere, they say they're not familiar with the features I'm talking about in the BES settings, and then they say they experience the same thing we do. (nothing auto downloads, you MUST manually start it) So I turn to you, the internets.
Does anyone have empirical evidence that this will or will not be possible?
