Default 4 questions about v5.0 OS for BES users...

We are currently using version 4.1.6.9 on the BES side and all devices are 9530's with two 8830's. We would like to update the devices, but not the BES yet (becuase of money) and I was wondering if you guys could help out with the following questions. All devices are through Verizon too.

-Will Storm devices that get upgraded to version 5.0 lose connectivity to a BES server running version 4 software?

-What benefits and bugs are widely reported in version 5.0 software so far for the Storm devices?

-How can the Storm most easily be upgraded to version 5.0? Via over-the-air upgrade (doubt it, with corporate email) or Desktop Manager?

-Can we upgrade the Storm devices to version 5.0 via a non-5.0 BES server?

We greatly appreciate all your help on this topic.

1) Storm 5.0 Devices will work fine with BES 4.1
2) Been running BES 5.0 with a storm since it was released with no bugs at all.
3) Storm needs to be upgraded using DM. Version 5.0 upgrade is not supported OTA
4) See Above - need to use DM. And I highly recommend this - Your storm users will feel like they got a brand new phone - one like they expected when they got a storm

Thanks for the reply! We just wanted to make sure we dug a little before we started updating these devices with v5.0. Thanks again!

Would we have to reactive the device with BES once the new OS is loaded via DM or will it work without interruption?

Thanks!

On all of ours I had to reactivate - but I don't have DM installed in enterprise mode. GlenB Offered advice in another forum suggesting if you use DM in Enterprise mode you shouldn't have to reactivate.

Although that was for a device switch - not an OS upgrade, but I would think the same would apply.

If when running Enterprise mode DM it detects a different PIN is used it will prompt to switch your BES account to the new device. I have seen situations where not changing the device, merely wiping or reflashing, DM detects it and reactivates, but it doesnt seem 100% reliable.
