Default What's the cut out for under the flash on cases for the 9900/9930?

What's the cut out for under the flash on cases for the 9900/9930? I have the otterbox commuter for my 9930 and it has cut outs on the back for the camera and flash but there's another smaller cut out right under the flash. Thought it might be for something on the 9900 but in looking at pics of the 9900 versus the 9930 I don't see anything additional in that area. Just curious.

Supposedly it's a secondary microphone.

A second mic? Interesting, is it on both the 9900 and 9930? Does it actually work? Thanks!

It's used to block out ambient noise via noise cancellation software.

Can anyone point to any links that provide more information about this feature? Haven't seen any mention of it on any of the documentation for this phone. Thanks.

Perhaps it's the auto-flash sensor.

I am also curious about this... It would be great if someone can confirm that it is a mic.

Maybe, except it would make more sense if the hole was directly below the flash slot.

For people with a 9650. there is a very small slit next to the camera module.

seems like an ambient sound cancellation thing. makes sense because its opposite from the mic hole. (bottom front vs top back).

Whi has time to test it?

So far the possible choices look like;

-second mic
-noise canceling speaker
-lanyard holder
-auto flash sensor
-video camera mic

I guess no one really knows for sure? The auto flash sensor makes the most sense to me.

the camera ambient light sensor is on the front next to the LED, thats a common known thing. my money is on the second microphone for the noise cancelling. my 9860 has it too.

It's for NFC people...

NFC is a likely guess. The hole on my Otterbox Commuter does reveal a portion of the silver band above the battery door. I thought it an odd aesthetic choice, but I wonder if it's metal and is somehow connected to the NFc antenna on the door.
