Neither a bold nor a curve. Back in 2013, BlackBerry had a ton of spare parts left over from previous device manufacturing. They decided to use up these spare parts to churn out another OS7 device for the emerging markets.

Not a terrible idea on their part because they probably made some decent cash. But it didn't do a lot to inspire people's confidence in the BB10 line.

It was also something cheap but with a touch screen for Enterprises who weren't rushing to replace their BBOS phones as quickly as BlackBerry needed.

I was dead against the 9720 at the time, but BlackBerry couldn't make a BB10 phone as cheap as that in 2013 so there wasn't much choice. I since bought one for my retired mother and it's actually the best BBOS phone I've used that wasn't a Bold/Torch.
