Outstanding. The package including 4.2.2.196 is the one you want. Follow Pete's instructions in CrackMem and you should have no problem. You will have to install Desktop Manager and CrackMem on your friend's PC, but they will not hurt his PC in any way.

Thanks for all the help. Its a great start.

Does anyone know what the physical addressing limit for SD cards is for the 8830? I have been unable to find an answer to this question in any reference materials and have gotten no answer from my emails to RIM.

I'd hate to buy a 8GB card only to find out it is capable of addressing 16GB. If it's just a software issue, that could have already been addressed in some of the 4.5.x.x betas.

The only size constraint that I've seen is OS related, as per this chart:
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 Up to 2 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0.81 and later Up to 16 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 and later Up to 32 GB

I excerpted this data from Pete6's post which is linked in my sig. Given the 8830 is nearing the end of its life, I'd be surprised if anything above OS4.5 is ever released for it. And 4.5 is still in beta.
