Hey all... I was reading up on CNET today about the new 8820 which has wifi! Now I assume since the 8830 is based off of the same design and all of the 8820 that the 8830 does have wifi but has been disabled by verizon or your provider. Does anyone have more information about this? Is it possible to unlock the 8830 to get the wifi working?

    Thanks in advance

No, there is no wifi built into the 8830 whatsoever. It's not a Verizon crippled option like GPS.

I think it was a mistake by Alltel, but my 8830's battery cover says "Wi-Fi Certified"

Interesting....8830's don't have wifi. Strange that would be there.

Does the battery also fit the 8820? I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case and the battery manufacturer just put that on all of their 8800 series batteries.

The 8830 does have a micro SD slot -- presumably wifi can go in there.

Does anyone know if spectect's micro SD wifi will work with blackberry 8800 series?

Based on the specs in the previous link of: 23.3 x 11 x 0.7 mm, its longer than the standard micro-sd card. My 2gig is 15 x 11 x 1mm.

Can't understand why this is still being discussed, these are Blackberrys not Windows Mobile phones. How is any micro sd WIFI card going to communicate with the phone? Unless you haven't noticed the 8830 has very limited use of the micro sd card.
