So, my 8830 was plugged into the wall charger charging, when it appeared - the slow red blink of death. This has appeared before and has been fixed by doing a hard reset - removing and replacing the battery and restarting the handheld. However, this time it doesn't seem to be working. I've taken the battery out for several minutes at a time. Yet, when I replace the battery, the slow red blink instantly appears again. Is there any other way to reset this phone?

There is not a "harder" reset. It sounds like you are going to have to perform the nuked berry recovery procedure.
