if you type your question in google, there several programs that allow you to view them, I'm not sure about editing though.

Why do you what to edit those files?

Search for ABC AMber IPD Converter. It will extract data, SMS, etc., from your backup file. You can't edit it, but you can extract what you need.

Default open ipd file

The IPD file is used for backup and restoration of data on a BB. What you want to do (I think) is synch your BB to an application like Outlook or Outlook Express. You can do that with the BB Desktop Manager program.

The BlackBerry Backup Extractor at blackberryconverter.com can get your address book, calendars, emails, texts, etc. from IPD files -- might be worth a shot.

Unsurprisingly this question has come up before. Look here for an answer http://forums.crackberry.com/f2/how-...5/#post6215054. See my post #10.
