Default Use on VZ w/o data plan

Is it possible to use the 8830 World Edition on Verizon without having a data plan?

When I use the activation function (*228) the system seems knows that I am A) calling from a blackberry and b) not paying them $30 for the data plan. Does anyone know a way to bypass this, or does this exist yet?

Not sure... It is rather odd that one would want a blackberry without a data plan, because without data, it is just a regular phone...

Thank you for your input. I got the phone for free. The calendar is nice. Does anyone know a way to use the 8830 on VZ without a data plan?

Not possible with Verizon. Although if you do find a way to "bypass" Verizon, it is possible to be theft of services and prosecutable by law.

(I am no lawyer, so please correct me if I am wrong. This is simply my understanding, and may also vary by location.)
