Transferring video thru google talk

I have been trying to transfer a video from my blackberry thru google talk to a friend who is on my google talk list. when i go to my video camera, select the video to send and choose send as google talk it tells me that no google talk contacts are available. i was chatting with my friend at the same time as trying to send the video, so he was indeed "available". Any suggestions on what i may be doing wrong?! thanks
