I was just reading reviews online of the 8830 and they keep saying things like "GPS for location based services only." or "Buy the Curve from AT&T for the same price but has GPS which 8830 doesn't" and so on. I thought the Telus 8830 had GPS and I could use it for directions and so on just like the pearl? I'm buying it today so wanted to be sure!!! I know Verizon locks GPS so maybe that's why they say no GPS?

It has gpsOne (Qualcomm aGPS system). It's not the same as the AT&T Curve.

I have an 8830 on Telus, and YES, it has the built in GPS and YES, you can use it with BB Maps, Google Maps, and navigating directions. BB maps allows you to have GPS nav as well, giving current speed, street, etc.

Once again, I'm on Telus and the GPS in the 8830 is fully functional.
