For the first time in over a year since getting my 8830, I finally used the Tasks app the other day. Worked great. Tried using it again the next day, and...nothing, no alert, and nothing since. Battery pull did nothing; in between 1st and 2nd usage no new apps were installed, no OS change done. Yes, I quintuple-checked the settings for Tasks in Profiles. I've checked the in-hand BlackBerry help, gone to BlackBerry 101 at CrackBerry. Using the app is pretty self-explanatory, so I don't think I've missed anything (I did get it to work once, remember). I even switched to another replacement 8830 (for an entirely different reason) a couple of days ago, and it still won't alert. Now what?
I do that stuff all the time. Usually you DO figure stuff out on your own, but asking the question here might save you a couple hours of angst, haha...
