At work I have a choice of either. There is no cost advantage of one over the other, as both are corporate carriers of choice.

As far as I can see, the major difference is CDMA vs GSM voice, EVDO vs EDGE data, and then the 8820 has WiFi where the 8830 does not.

Out of the US will be of only secondary concern, most all of travel will be in major cities where TMobile has good service.

    Any suggestions?

EVDO is way faster than EDGE for data, but then there is no WiFi. Is WiFi really a big deal?

I am going to ask the same question on the 8800/8820 forum.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Myself, I like Sprint better than T-Mobile, so I'd go with the 8830. And yes, EVDO is faster than EDGE.

I would take the 8830 over the 8820 because of the GPS. GPS on the 8830 has saved me more times than I can count, that and its just really convenient. WiFi would be great but with EVDO I can definitely manage without it.
