This may be a really dumb question, but here goes:
Isn't there some shortcut to move through long lists more quickly, instead of just scrolling? For example, scrolling through media files, scrolling on the web, etc.

To go to the top of the list press T, to go to the bottom of the list press B. If you are looking for something specific start typing what it is.

The space bar and T/B work in the browser - THANK YOU!! Unfortunately, I tried all your wonderful suggestions but they don't work in my card files(on my BB anyway). I have about 3G of music; when I want to explore my media card, I don't seem to have any options. (However, when I am in the player, the find feature does work nicely.) Any other suggestions? Thanks again!
