space bar does not work at all

The space bar on my 8830 has decided to stop functioning. it won't illuminate the display screen, advance spaces as a space bar should. any suggestions before I go to the shop?

If you haven't already, reboot. With the phone on, remove the battery, leave it out for a few seconds, then put it back. If the problem is in software, that will fix it. If you have a hardware failure, or the device is suffering from moisture intrusion, you're out of luck.
