Every so often, blackberries will run some sort of scan, making the phone unusable at these times... texts, calls, and alarms do not sound. does anyone know why this is and how you can prevent it from happening? these scans also sometimes delete call logs, text inboxes, etc. Again, does anyone know how to prevent this?

What you may be experiencing is the Blackberry recovering memory. Check the value you have in Options/Status/File Free. If it's less than 10 000 000 bytes, you're low on memory.

To recover memory, the blackberry will delete call logs and text messages. Removing the battery will also clean the memory and temporarily alleviate the problem. The solution is to remove files you don't need. Here is a step-by-step procedure that will walk you through that.
