I have searched and searched, and with no answer to this particular question.

Not to mention, the FAQ is VERY OUTDATED with alot of WRONG answers. I'm sure they were correct in 2007! But we are in 2009. So lets get some updates going!

What I want to know is this.

I researched several sources and found that the Sprint 8830 WE has GSM bands of 900 & 1800. So does the Tmo 8900. (phonescoop shows this too!)

SO! Can you put a Tmo Sim card in the 8830 WE and use it on their network?

Does it have to be unlocked? If so, is the UNLOCK code the same as the MSL?

I'd really like to have answers and not just conjecture.

    Thank You for your help.

The 8830 is designed for the EUROPEAN (and some other) gsm bands and will NOT work with US carriers within the US.

UNlocking will allow foreign sim cards to be used in the verizon model when in Europe.

I second this. It's not so much a lock thing, as it is a frequency thing. The US GSM bands are different than the European bands.

The GSM radio in the 8830 won't transmit on the frequencies that NA GSM carriers use. So, the short answer is no.
