Default Not Current Phone, Still Unlocked?

Hello all,

I have a Sprint 8830 WE that I used while still under my parents plan. I currently still have sprint, but use a different phone. While the 8830 is no longer active on the sprint network, would I still be able to use it overseas if I got a different SIM card for it? It is my understanding that the sprint phone already comes SIM unlocked, but I wasn't sure if it work if it wasn't my current and active day to day phone.

Thank you for your help!

To check if it is unlocked, pop in any sim into the phone, Go to Options - Advanced > SIM CARD - then type MEPD, if all securities are disabled then it is unlocked.

Being locked/unlocked is an independent state and is not influenced by whether or not the phone is active. If Sprint's 8830's are unlocked (similar to Bell's 8830) then yes, you may use it overseas granted the country has the necessary radios/frequency supported by the 8830.
