My IT dept told me not to install BB DSW - can I use the new BB Media Sync even if I do not have the DSW installed?

I looked at the BlackBerry software download site, here: BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites

I read the requirements for Media Sync. I can't find anywhere where RIM says that Desktop Manager is required to use Media Sync. I don't use it so I can't test it. You can always try it.
