Does anyone know what the two brass ports on the left side of the 8830 are used for? The only explanation I could find was the one below, however I was unable to confirm it anywhere else.

Like I mentioned before, both sides of the phone have a steel finish. Along the top left side, there is a headset jack followed closely by a miniUSB port. This port has dual use, as a transfer port and a charging port. In the center of the same side is a Voice Command hotkey. Just below it is the wrist strap holder.

The two brass contacts on the left side are electrical contacts for a charging cradle. They are not a wrist strap holder. The reference you cite is incorrect.
