Default Invalid sim card

I Need serious help(not mental help,blackberry help) anyway i purchased a verizon 8830 world edition on ebay and i've heard it doesnt need to be unlocked to use it overseas what i want to know is that why ive put a sim in that uses 2G (EDGE) and it says invalid sim card i put in my sim that i was currently using on my 9700 and nothing happened it said invalid sim card whatever should i do , do i need to get service books sent to it?

Sure does sound like a SIM lock is active. Have a look at Options > Advanced Options > SIM card and type the letters M E P D. A handful of new items will show up on the screen, what do you see beside Network? Active/Inactive/Disabled?
