    When I drop my 8830 from so much as a 1/2" off the desk the 8830 turns off and locks up on me. I've tried everything I can think of but the only way I can get it back on is to take the battery out & restart it. Any ideas??

    Definitely sounds like a short in the circuitry to me. I would probably recommend seeing if you could swap it for new if you haven't had it long.

    Get the phone swapped out. A couple of others have reported this same problem and it was the phone itself.
