I currently also have verzion and when using google maps today I was given a prompt that it was finding my location, the app then informed me that it was using the cell towers to determine my location, and although it wasn't as accurate as GPS, shortly thereafter a small blue dot appeared on the screen at my location. This is the first time I have ever used google maps on my blackberry, I just downloaded all the google apps last night, so I do not know if this is a recent update or not. Sure, not as good as Verizon just unlocking the GPS feature like they should, but its better than paying 9.99 a month for VZN.
yeah, its not the greatest option, but Verizon has locked down the GPS on their BBs, and it can only be used with their software (verizon nav?) for $10 per month. There's no way around this, as far as I've seen.
Yes, definitely not what it should be, but for me its been fairly close, I've only ever been off by a street or 5, not great for walking directions, but long distance it's better than nothing
