Can some other 8830 users please tell me what the number is on their File Total? I'm trying to figure something out with my Blackberry and that would be very helpful information. Thanks!

The device memory should be somewhere around 55Mb. The internal memory on the 8830 is 64Mb... but the file free is less because of system files, etc.

In order for that to be useful, you want to check right after a restart when all the temporary caches have been cleared.

Then, you can also use BlackBerry Restore to see your data load. Subtract that off the total for a reasonable accurate total.

Incorrect for CDMA Blackberries. Due to the large 16.xxMB core OS flash file (firmware), the total file free is 47.xxMB. (64-16~47) After that, the rest is taken by the Application/OS level files. (difference between the file total and file free)
